Just a quick note, this was written in 1995 in the midst of my divorce, it was a very tough time for me.

FORGIVEN

I told the Lord you lied to me,
He told me He is the only truth.

I told the Lord you cheated on me,
He said, "Love doesn't keep account of wrong doings."

I told the Lord I wanted a divorce,
He said, "He who divorces his wife commits adultery."

I told the Lord "He who commits adultery with
Another man's wife shall reap death!"
He said, "See that none render evil for evil unto another man."

I asked the Lord why I couldn't change you,
He said, "Remove the plank from your own eye,
Then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye."

I asked the Lord how could I make it alone?
He said, "My grace is sufficient for thee."

I told the Lord, "But my spirit is broken."
He said, "Blessed are the poor in spirit,
For theirs is the kingdom of heaven."

I told the Lord I had nothing left.
He said, "Be content with such things as ye have,
For I will never leave you or forsake you."

I cried to the Lord for my marriage,
He said, "Blessed are they that mourn,
For they shall be comforted."

When I realized all my strife was stemming from hurt pride,
I said, "Forgive me, Lord."
He said, "You're forgiven."

Michael.....this was so moving. Thank you for posting this one, we all need to know that no matter what, He forgives, now could we all be as forgiving of each other and ourselves as He, we'd have a much different world.

Michael...This is very good, I think it is a great reminder to all that God will always forgive us when we truthfully and honestly ask Him for His forgiveness. Yet you also show another point here (at least what I get from it)...You started out by telling the Lord what your wife had done, looking for an answer (which He so humbly gave you), not intending to need to ask for forgiveness, yet in the end you seemed to realize that from your humble pride came all th strife that you were talking to the Lord about and realized you needed to ask for forgiveness. I know I have done this before...(as I am sure many other have too) we go to the Lord in prayer to ask for help or complain about certain situations looking for help in dealing with that, and it turns out by listening to what He has said, it was I (us) that were at fault and I think that your poem reflects that well. I know many people who can benefit spiritually from this poem. Thank you for posting it!
