BECAUSE

Because I only knew what felt right to me,
He was wrongfully judged.
Because I bragged of myself for all to see,
His own name was to be smudged.
Because I sought only acclaim for myself,
He found indignity scorns.
Because I thought I was king of the world,
He was given a crown of thorns.

Because I danced with sickness I couldn't see,
He took thirty-nine stripes across His back.
But for moans and groans over ills I did perceive,
I never even heard the whip crack.
Because I was proud and arrogant,
He carried a cross of shame.
Because I was sanctimonious and self-righteous,
He was nailed to its frame.

Because I searched for glory here on earth,
He was uplifted toward the skies.
Because I was crooked, cursed in birth,
He saved a thief from sure demise.
And because I adored my own flesh,
They plunged a spear deep in His side.
Yes, because I glorified myself,
Jesus Christ was crucified.

But only because God loved this world enough-
To give His only begotten Son,
Did Jesus die upon that cross,
And enter hell's dominion.
And only because Christ could not be bound-
By Satan or any earthly grave;
Through His rising again - can I testify,
That I am no longer sin's slave.
I'm free, I'm full of love and life,
Forgiven of the past I once immasked.
Jesus washed me blood I'll never be worthy of,
Simply because................I asked.

I am deeply touched by your picture of the Christ which we all put on the cross by our sin, and the God willing to lift us up again.
A Powerful picture & message,indeed!

As I am not informed on religion, i hope I am not being a pest to ask a question about Jesus. Was he crucified for all of mankinds sins, or only for Christians? Don't get me wrong, I am not beinf sarcastic or anything, I am just curious.

Micheal, wonderful work, as always.

Michael, I sit here in tears after reading this poem! Many know that Christ died for all of our sins, but many do not understand that even the smallest of sins, or things we dont even realize are sins, He died for. I am almost speachless after reading this, but I do believe that this is a poem that needs to get out into the world for everyone to read, especially the non-believers! If you do not mind, I would like to print this out to share with my church (all credit to you of course).

Amy...Jesus Christ died on the cross for EVERYONE's sins, not just Christians...For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Hi, shall not perish bt have ever lasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him. Whoever believes in Him si not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son." (John 3:16-18)...'Christian' is a name given to anyone who is a follower of Chirst..."and when he found him, he brought him to Antioch. So fora whole year Barnabas and Saul met with the church and taught great numbers of people. The disciples were called Christians first at Antioch." (Acts 11:26)

I know this is kind of old, one of the first poems to be posted in this forum, but that is one reason why I brought it back up.  There have been many new faces showing in here in the last month or so and I would just like them to see this.  The other reason is to say thank you to all who commented the first time through.  I seek no credit but only hope this poem has allowed God to touch you as He has touched me.

I apologize for my recent absence, I hope I will be more apparantly present here and posting more now that the holidays are finished.

Thank you and may God bless you all.

Thank you.  I love how well you present the suffering of Christ's Passion. The suffering He willingly accepted, contrasted with our sins, which make Him suffer by going against His will, in small or large ways.

Then your ending of how He accepts us into His grace by our accepting Him, that all we have to do is accept Him is to ask Him to accept us.

A very touching poem.

thanks michael for reposting this - i totally echo everyone's praise of your writing - God is definately using you to reach people!  But you're right - all praise goes to God for making it possible and giving you the gift.  Reading it i realised again how every little sin we commit nailed Jesus on that cross - every vain thought, every idle word.  What an excellent poem Michael i'm glad we'll be reading more of your work again - i've missed it!!!

Michael, this poem is a blessing.  It is a wonderful testimony and it is so awesome to see God using your talents to glorify Him.  My prayer is that this poem reaches throughout Passions like ripples in a pond.

MICHAEL; Your honesty with your own failings, echo mine, and the wonderful truth of Jesus' saving Grace is all there is to know, and all we'll ever need. You have written a masterpiece. I'm so glad this poem was brought to the for. Inspiring beyond words. Ellie

Michael this is a very sobering, humble poem. Man, I feel guilt when I read this, and only because of my own shortcomings. He has a way to make us stop and think, and today it was through you!

Thank you Michael!
