Standing on the outside,
looking in.
Afraid to knock
on the door in front of you.
How many times have
you stood at the threshold
but been too scared to cross?
What is it you fear?
The unknown lies ahead.
What awaits you on the other side?
Only one way to find out.
The door swings open,
Will you enter?

 It matters not how strait the gate;
How charged with punishments the scroll;
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.
--W.E. Henley

Tara,
I love this; even if I am taking my own interpretation of it to heart. lol A powerful message nonetheless with your continued talent for descriptive word use.

Some doors were meant to stay closed, especially the enticing ones.

'Tis good work Tara.

The message of this poem is so powerful Tara. I know the reason behind this particular work; yet, it still speaks volumes to me as though it was meant for me. Portal.. a portal to a different life, time, and possible adventures. Simply  put "Wonderful"

Tara...sometimes we have to loose our fears, step into the unknown and only hope and pray we find what we seek

The unknown can indeed be paralyzing. Well done, Tara!

Very nice work Tara.  There are so many way I could respond to this.  But as there is a time and place for everything will reserve my answer to this......You will always miss 100 percent of the shots you never take. ...What lies beyond the door could be a future of greatness.  Sometimes we don't know what is there.  Like the makers of old maps...they would lable uncharted waters of the west with things like "HERE BE DRAGONS" or "Here lives Sea Monsters" It is so hard to chose the unknown to the known....Best of luck in your choices

Two things don't last long...people who rush through unknown doors and dogs who chase cars. Gee, I must be getting old!

Jeff and Shawn, thanks guys! Although you both know this was for one of my students, I knew you would also find a personal message in it. Maybe you should both brave the unknown and go past the threshold!

David, you have such a positive outlook on life.  I love what you said about finding your greatness, that is what we encourage our students to do!

Scott, the enticing doors are the ones that we should DEFINITELY open.  Thank you.

Michael, fools rush in where angels fear to tread.  I agree, one shouldn't rush into the unknown, but standing around contemplating it won't get you anywhere either.  Weigh your decision, then do it.

Ruth, Denise, and Severn: Thank you very much for your comments.
