Don't ask me what color the sky is
It changes colors
the closer you get
Don't ask me what color the clouds are
Because I've never been above them
and they always look dark
but one day
I may get there yet.

Don't ask me how tall the trees are
There are too many
I haven't climbed
and the leaves are always falling
and the colors are too numerous
I'd name them all
but I don't have the time.

Don't ask me how far it is to paradise
I've never been there before
There are so many people
with blank faces
I would love to sketch in the details
But right now the figures are hazy
Maybe one day
I'll get to that door.

So sad when the faces are blank and the picture is hazy.

 It matters not how strait the gate;
How charged with punishments the scroll;
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

Dear one, I read the longing in your words for knowledge the thirst for facts...and then, the transition to wanting to know paradise not as a geographic space, but a merging of spirits...(or maybe thats what I am reading into it!

Details will fix themselves, I guarantee it. For now, keep journeying.....afterall, today is yesterday's someday.

Tara and Julie,
     Thanks for the kind words and the encouragement. Actually, this poem was not written out of sadness or melancholy, it was more a thoughtful or pensive piece; just an expression of my longing to do more with my life and the people I meet. Julie, you hit the nail right on the head!  ) Paradise in my poem is definitely symbolic of a spiritual fulfillment rather than an actual place.

I hope you can think of some answers to those questions before "fatherhood" as I am sure each and every one will be asked.  Pensive places are good places.  Nice read as usual, missed it first time around.
