Desire long unmet has birthed despair
Sobriety's a flaming burning hell
Love's gentle flowing stream for him's not there
Intoxicated's where he'd rather dwell.

Rejection's sharpest knife is smoothed somewhat
A soothing balm he finds within kind drink
Acceptance sought so long's embraced him not
Brew's refuge harbors him - too numb to think.

Youth's tender heart was broken long ago
A mount of expectation buried him
A hand of rescue for him did not show
To pull him from that avalanche so grim.

O, perfect Father, from Your throne above
Sing to this babe Your lullaby of love.

Thank you, Marge, Elizabeth and Rebecca for your read and comments! Thanks so much for your concern, Rebecca, but this is not about me...inspired by a letter I received yesterday about somebody! Thanks though for your concern!

A great writing...so true, so sad, and so beautiful to end it with a prayer.

Denise this is beautiful ... I am speechless...okay, well almost, because I am almost truly never speechless.     It does remind me though of some friends that have fought this battle.  Thanx for the great read!

Very nice...
It is a sonnet. A lullaby too. But a sonnet straight through.

Thank you all so much for reading and commenting. Yes, it is sad when people drown themselves in drink to ease the pain of life. Definitely not the way to go. I pray the perfect love of the heavenly Father will replace the imperfect love of his earthly father. When that realization dawns then healing can come. Thanks again everyone for your wonderful comments!

Oh, Denise, I truly hope that he hears the lullaby before it is too late...thank you so much for posting and sharing this with us...it has touched me so much. God Bless you, and EVERYONE who suffers like this.

Too many people need to hear this, and won't listen, but we can still hope and pray.
