While the candle of man's life does burn-
Many lessons may he learn.
Lessons of his on self worth,
That nothing's kept we've gained on earth-
That passions must not have the rule-
Nor confidence be placed in fools.
A ship is safe if firmly moored,
Alas, that's not what ships are for...
The way of man with maid in love-
Is sweet as nectar from above-
But wait till one has not their way-
Hell hath no fury like that day.
To place no faith in words and vows-
For most they're binding only, "Now"
That children, they are people, too
With feelings just like me and you.
Forever in the normal sense-
Is not a very sturdy fence-
It only serves to last as long
As couples dance to the same song.
And for real wisdom, long I've yearned-
And wiser counsel never spurned,
And as the world so quickly turns-
I'll learn while yet my candle burns.-
