That Dream, Again

Unruly life,
neither grid,
nor map to follow.
Wishing-well sky
out of reach.

In Pollyanna daydream
I set out
seeking the seer.
My old  dog Jake,
this rusty truck,
driving to your town.

Your red and white barn,
banjos on the boards,
corny cowboy art,
bucking bronco lamp
illuminating
your saddle chair.

Greeting,
eyes meeting.
Spectral whispers,
barn-owl serenades
in the eaves; in the eve.
What is more natural
than loving you?

You offer red berries,
wine and wheat.
I show you my Ford
tuned to broadcasts
from old Mexico.

We ride,
galloping in sunshade.
Leaves cascade.
Earthen bed to explore,
coming home once more.

Sun-setting in the west.

Hope refrains
as you say,
nonchalantly -
shyly,
  "Stay."
