Why my mother left Germany at age 6 in 1912 has always been a mystery, arriving here with her mother and leaving behind a brother and sister and a father. We were to be reunited with our German cousins recently who were to tell us the truth, and so this poem to my cousin Hiltrud before that meeting

Truth Untold
A Poem for Hiltrud and Family

What happened in the past is a story still untold
The sorrows of our parents are not ours to behold
What's past is past, what's done is done. a song already sung
Our hearts cannot recapture
What they saw when they were young

So far away, so long ago, what can it matter now?
It's just another leaf that has fallen from the bough
Insignificant events in the history of mankind
A fragile little snowflake that the wind has left behind

And yet it's not the facts that prod our hearts to know the truth
It's the spirit of our heritage ever present since our youth
It's the intimate kindred soul of which we are a part
It's the key to who we are
And who we have been from the start

Separated by an ocean, but not by thoughts or prayers
Separated by a time frame, but not by loving cares
An overwhelming question for our impatient hearts to hold
The truth of why our mother left is a story still untold

Ashley,
You are right, there is definitely a plan, and when I learned the truth of my mother's past, my life seems like a joy ride.
Thank you for your very kind remark
Liz

Elizabeth, my friend -
Beautiful.
No leaf falls from the family
bough without someone wondering
where the wind takes it.
Strange how some things elude
us ... seemingly unimportant
until we want to know.
Then ... we search to find
the links to the mysteries.

I hope you found the answer
so the story is full-told.
Love ~*Marge*~
