children laughed and sang and played after dark.
Hopscotches drawn on sidewalks all over the park.
Merry-go-rounds twirling, squeals heard with glee.

Once upon a time, long, long ago
children played in the playgrounds of fun.
Where did they go?

Nightmares were not a common thing
in the sugarplum-fairy-land.
Until ......
Shots rang out striking with a zzzzzing,
the children letting go of our hands.

Once upon a time, long, long ago
children stood with friends and family.
Where have they gone?
They've gone to be with God.

The dirge plays on,
the tears rise in number.
No more playground laughter,
precious children cast in death's slumber

Once upon a time, long, long ago
children, yours and mine,
where did they go?

Fairy Colours -
So glad you found it to your liking.
Unfortunately, it is all too real in
this day and time.
Our heart-felt wish and prayer is that
peace and understanding surround us all.
God be with our children.
Anytime you are awake ...
you'll find someone here.

Yep...it's sad...most kids grow up way too quick....others don't have the chance to grow at all?....There's so many sick people out there..(even sicker than me)...but violently sick....Too bad ya can't just snap your fingers and solve all of life's mysteries? Nicely done my dear.....

Thank you, Toe.
I'm sure that in your profession
you see the empty playgrounds and
hear the crying hearts.

It has to get better ...
it couldn't get much worse.
'Times ... they are a'changing'
let's hope and pray.

So sad...so true....

Marge,
Your musings are very sad, I would you smile
and visit the other side. Beautiful poem *L*

Pepper -
Thank you for commenting. Yes, it's sad
that it's true.

Seymour -
Thank you, dear one.  Sometimes the musings have to be reality ... unfortunately ... this is that time.
It's up to us to open 'the other side' of the playground and make it a safe harbor
for our children.

Denise -
Thank you, my dear.

Oh my, I think you know my feelings on this one before I even post them. This is so sad, but so true and only we can make the changes needed to keep this from happening. Thank you for posting this .

Yes, Ruth ... yours and mine
and hopefully the world's.
I'm so pleased that it touches hearts.
Hopefully .... there is hope.

Wow - my friend of the heartfelt issues.

We don't get too much school yard violence here (Considering even our policemen don't carry guns on a day to day basis - not too many people have access to them.)

But it is creeping up.

Thankyou for this, Marge.

Hey, that's a cool picture (love the lighthouse). I wonder where those children do go...sort of made me think of the song "Where Have All the Flowers Gone?"

Elizabeth

 Nail to the mast her holy flag,
Set every threadbare sail-
And give her to the god of storms,
The lightning and the gale!

Severn, dear one -
I wish it wasn't a happenstance of today, but unfortunately it is and it breaks our hearts.
We are supposed to be the guardians of the children and we cry.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1st Elizabeth -
Reminded me of the same song as it did you.
The lighthouse is hopefully a symbol of finding our way and trying to stop the senseless slaying of our children.
Thank you for your kind words.
