More than twenty years ago
You stole into my heart...
You crept in there, quite unawares
Unlike old Cupidís dart.
Our love was doomed right from the start
It never could exist-
Your face goes with me everywhere,
Weíve never even kissed.
Iíve held you every night, my love-
When we were far apart.
Youíve carved a niche so deeply
You live within my heart.
Iíve touched you oft in passing...
Somehow I sense itís true,
That in your heart, you yearn for me
The way I long for you.
Unrequited love they say-
Can drive a man insane...
Perhaps, my love, they tell the truth
Youíre messing up my brain.
I know Iíll never have you,
Iíll never even try...
But I had to tell you how I feel,
Before I said Goodbye.
Iíll ride into the sunset,
Iíll do it once again
And as I ride, Iíve held inside
The tears that should have been.
So in my heart, Iím holding you,
And basking in your charms,
In truth, forsooth, Iím here alone
With these two empty arms.

You have such a way with words.  Your writing is always powerful, emotional.

 It matters not how strait the gate;
How charged with punishments the scroll;
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.
--W.E. Henley
