Sea Of Faith

I tossed my heart into the deep blue sea
Of love, and then, I watched it float away
And wondered if it would drift back to me
In waves that crash upon the shore someday
The rhythm of the waves in cadence rang
Where high upon the rocky cliff I stood
And in eternal notes to him, I sang
And hoped that he would answer if he could
I threw my faith out to the sea that day
Then looked to find him standing by my side
He pulled me close to him above the bay
And begged me cast my fears out to the tide

I cast my love and faith out to the sea
And in his arms he brought them back to me

 "I am nothing special, of this I am sure. I am a common man with common thoughts and I've led a common life. There are no monuments dedicated to me and my name will soon be forgotten, but I've loved another with all my heart and soul, and to me , this has always been enough." ~Nicholas Sparks from The Notebook

Samsonheart...(geez, I think I called you sampsonite before) thank you for your kind words. I very rarely attempt sonnets (this being only my 3rd attempt) and unless I know I've got it right, I don't label it as such because I usually mess up the meter somewhere in it. Not sure whether I pulled it off this time or not.

Lady Hoot: I haven't been able to play in the sandbox lately so I'm sure I've missed a great deal of wonderful writing. Glad I didn't miss this one... I have to say I like the emotional side of this one, but not having much poetic knowledge I can't say whether or not you accomplished your mechanical task.  I hope you are doing well and the season is showing a kinder face than that of the past weeks.  My best to you and yours.

I always mess up on the meter in sonnets also, but I think this one is beautiful!

There is no sweeter victory than the one you find in the arms of your love.  Beautiful masterpiece!  You've painted a lovely picture, Ruth.

 It matters not how strait the gate;
How charged with punishments the scroll;
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

Ten syllables in each line, 14 lines, good meter = excellent sonnet. Beautiful job, hoot.

May the deepness of the sea carry your fears as far as the east from the west.

I see the peace and calm feelings in this one you have wrote.  Maybe it is the meter and the thought of waves and the sea. Maybe it is just you

One of your best works I think Ruth.
