Our
friendship
unmeasured
by the strife
of

................................distance

your voice
melted
my darkness
and
words true
became precious
by the ringing
of your tones

…I succumbed
to trusting…

~
I am not
an easy catch
of trust
~

I have seen
through discoloured
eyes
and tasted lies
sharp and ruining

tentatively given
to a myriad
bright angels
false

And there you were

my friend

holding me
voicely

as I bled

through those lines
I felt your hug
in the warmed air
around
and saw your smile
through
the laugh of
your lilt

our world
of huge separation
is sole geography

and joy lives
in ignorance
of all but the hush
inside

I have
already flown there
no longer
than a breath
of care
and I stood
outside your heart

and was welcomed

~safely~

My dear Kamly,
Your poem brought tears to my eyes
How beautifully your heart replies
I have no words the thank you, dear
Except to say that you are near
Near to the hearts of the poets all
And I'll be waiting for your call
And if you need a poet some day
We are all just a little phone call away

Thank you, dear friend.
You're an angel!
Love ya,
Liz

This is beautiful, Kamla! She does have a lovely lilt to her voice, doesn't she?!   A lovely tribute to a lovely person from another lovely person!

This is beautiful, reminded me of all the times my best friend and I comforted each other on the phone when we couldn't be together due to geography.  Wonderful!

How charged with punishments the scroll;
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

Wonderful Severn. . .

I really like the formatting too. . . it really helps convey that idea of "distance". . . so many people don't realize that poems can be works of art without being read. . .

Thankyou very much everyone, your words mean so much to me. And without my friend Lizzy it wouldn't have been written.

- Dearest Lizzy
you left me in a tizzy
when you called me Kamly
and look at me being rhymy! LOL

My friend - you were a saviour that day.

Kamla...I will echo all above and add that this is one of the most beautiful tribute poem of love for a friend that I've ever read....I could feel that love so strongly while reading.....most wonderful piece!

A soul that writes from the heart and shares it, truly gives a gift extraordinaire!

Friendship is a gift of life. You give your life to us each time you write Severn, and you do it so well. Straight from the heart.
