Please Remember

You dare me to leave the safety of my shores
To swim in the pools of your eyes
Please remember...
I’ve taken that dive before
And nearly drowned in the very same waters that gave me life

You reach out your hand to me
Ask me to take it in faith
Please remember...
I’ve stepped off the ledge before
And I know how bad it can hurt to fall

You speak to me in words of truth
Hoping that I will trust you
Please remember...
I offered up my trust before
And watched my dreams shatter as my trust was betrayed

You open up your heart to me
Beg me to open mine to you
Please remember...
I’ve opened it up before
And felt the pain that comes when it is broken

You offer up your love to me
Praying only for love in return
Please remember...
I have loved before
And know the emptiness that comes when love is no more

You tell me you are different
That you won’t hurt me
I understand
But please remember...
And understand too

"I am nothing special, of this I am sure. I am a common man with common thoughts and I've led a common life. There are no monuments dedicated to me and my name will soon be forgotten, but I've loved another with all my heart and soul, and to me , this has always been enough." ~Nicholas Sparks from The Notebook

Heartfelt and Beautiful Ruth...
    Hugs

A soul that writes from the heart and shares it, truly gives a gift extraordinaire!

This is an excellent representation of life. If we don't learn from our mistakes, then what good is experience? Great poem, Ruth.

This is why you're one of my favorite poets, Ruth!  I love the vulnerability you put into this one.

 It matters not how strait the gate;
How charged with punishments the scroll;
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

Ruth, this is understandable why you feel this way. You've expressed yourself very well.  It will take time for trust to build and so on.  Hang in there girlfriend!

Wonderful poem, Ruth! Trust can't be regained quickly...it takes time.

Forgive the late reply Ruth as my computer is crashed and I write from a friends computer at work.  This is truly lovely as aways from you.....and know I understand.....

I will never ask what you can not give,
A share in your day makes my heart live.

A smile or two chasing the clouds away,
Or just a thought to end my lonely day.

I will never push you beyond what you are,
Come to me close or you can venture far.

I give you needed space and all your time,
May I always give you that peace of mind.

Bare with me as I write from the top of my head,
For my computer from where I write is quite dead.

Share what you are for you are what you share

David, your words brought tears to my eyes. Thank you...and I will give you all I can as I can.
