Conquering Heroes

Some carry fear as if
it is a treasure
Locked in close to the
chest as if letting
go of it will stop
our hearts from
beating, pulling our
very lives away
We listen to its voice
telling us

~~No~~

Yet in the echo we hear
a whisper
Our souls are crying
choking back the word

~~Yes~~

In our minds we see
all we have to lose
but draw the curtain
on what is to be gained
Uncertainty rules the
dreams we have
A government without

~~Wings~~

Shadows keep our eyes
trapped in dim light
How small would this
dictator called

~~Fear~~

appear to us after
the revolution
A coup by our own

~~Courage~~

Caroline -

The loveliest of thoughts
flowing from your pen,
have reached my heart
and touched my heart,
again
and again
and again.

'Tis indeed a well wrought poem my friend.

Going to argue with me now...?

Lovely as always - and quite powerful too.

My every thanks to all of you who replied to this piece. I was a bit worried about it since it does roam from my usual and I wasn't sure how it might be received. You all inspire me to keep reaching (gotta try and keep up, ya know!) Love every last one of you!

And Severn...Oh aye, girlfriend, I'll still argue it!

I have six cakes to bake tonight, so I'll be back to read in between mixing and baking! LOL

If you bake cakes as good as this poem, they'll be 'angel food'!

caroline, I cannot add anything new to what's already been said, just let me say that was beautiful and moving and save me a piece of cake.

Dreams, a Government without wings...

Intruiging thoughts - a truly memorable phrase - perhaps one day a famous quote
