ONCE IN EVERY LIFETIME

Once in every lifetime,
Someone will come along.
To touch you in that special way,
Whose voice is like a song.
Who sees you as you really are,
And loves just what she sees
I’ve never entertained a doubt,
But you’re the one for me.
We met when we were twenty,
You loved me from the first-
And followed those elusive dreams
For which my soul did thirst.
Living from a suitcase,
And drifting cross the land-
All you ever asked for,
Was being with your man.
Sleeping in a bedroll
And cooking on the ground.
Never knowing when or where
Our next camp would be found.
Deep inside I loved you,
But wanted to be free,
Now I am glad you stuck it out,
And you’re still here for me.
The first thing that you asked me-
That winter day we met,
Was, “Are you a real cowboy”?
I smiled, and said, “You bet”!
You helped me with the feeding-
When Bullseye fell on me...
And found that cowranch livin’s
Not what it’s cracked up to be.
But once in every life time-
A man find’s something fine...
I thought I'd pause and tell you,
“Virginia, you are mine”.

Beautiful love poem, Gunslinger-she probably needs to hear that! Did you read Marge's poem "It Goes Without Saying"? Again, I enjoyed the read.

Nail to the mast her holy flag,
Set every threadbare sail-
And give her to the god of storms,
The lightning and the gale!

*Sings...Once in every life, someone comes along...* Ah, and this poem is just like a song too. Well done GS and it sounds like there are two very lucky people in the world.
