Listening to every heart

The Christmas Present

Everyone is rushing about, the children are being better,
trying to be so very good, for the yearly Santa letter
the one that Santa reads, before his trip around
to each and every village, each and every town.

Now parents do help out, in all the fuss and turmoil
wrapping presents up just right, in green and golden foil
sending cards and letters, talking about the kids, the fun,
laying out for relatives their stories, talking about everyone.

Moms are busy baking, Dads are building things,
their children sitting quietly, playing with some string.
The tree is up and glittering, with silver and golden balls,
the children wander aimlessly, watching needles fall.

In the distance, carolers, coming along to sing
of angels and good tidings, and all about the King.
Houses lit from top to toe, in all their shining light,
making it look so very warm, making seasons bright.

But I know you see it, something's missing here,
there's a loss, an absence, a missing of good cheer.
So take this little reminder, don't be without it now,
here is my little secret and I will tell you how.

How to give but of yourself, to your children there,
take them in your outstretched arms, see their faces fair
and know that it is you, only you and your loving heart
that is all they want, and their choice to never part.

For all the toys and games, electronic or otherwise,
will all be without naught, if you cannot reprise
the loving bond between you, the caring should be there
so this winter's Christmas, will be beyond compare.

And if you are without children, in your warm, safe home,
then do yourself a favor, and your heart won't roam
if you find it in your grandchildren, give of them your heart,
for if you didn't make time the first time, it's never to late to start.

And if you are without grandchildren, well, you are not alone,
but there are children everywhere, some that need a home,
and every child needs a mentor, just like they need a dwelling,
so be a friend to one without, your heart will end up swelling.

So here is the best of all presents, reminiscent of the King,
for if you give of you, yourself, you'll hear the angels sing.

Their presents would mean nothing without your presence. You are so right!

Whtdove, when kids are sad, missing the "real thing", they tend to sit quietly - thank goodness your kids never sit quietly...they have the real thing...

denise, thank you!

Giving of yourself is truly the best gift indeed, Sunshine...

Nail to the mast her holy flag,
Set every threadbare sail-
And give her to the god of storms,
The lightning and the gale!

Sunshine -

What a wonderful ray of ~Sunshine~ !

Looking into children's eyes
should make us all realize,
they see the naked truth
and speak the angelic words of love,
straight from their little hearts.

We need only to love them.
And we do.
