I guess you could say,
That it could almost be gay,
When a guy talks nice 'bout another.
But during the season
For some damned reason,
It's a better time than the other.

My father was truly the first and fore-most,
Of all the men I've admired,
His wisdom and patience for a son like me,
Is all I could hope to desire.

But there's two fellas here,
That are so admirable for sure,
With wit and wisdom so rare,
LongJohn Silver and old Balladeer,
Two guys with intelligence to spare.

LongJohn's a nut, and a talented guy,
Balladeer-no words can describe,
I wish for you both a Merry Christmas,
And a long and prosperous life.

Okay, I know this is corny, and probably sounds like BS from one like me....but I truly and deeply mean it.....These two guys have kept me from going off the deep end many a'time......(Maybe cuz it reminds me I'm not the only idiot around?)...and misery does love company yanno?.......Oh, and one more thing.....this is not to imply I don't think there are so many other idiots, or, um, I mean other guys here that I admire a bunch.....the "Justin" bunch, Andrew Scott, and so many others....It's just that these two have been so "kind"....(I guess ya could call all those replies kind or something?), to me, and I guess I've just enjoyed the BS so much.....

Not being a "guy" I wasn't sure if I should read this! LOL. But I'm sure glad I did... it's a wonderful poem... and a terrific tribute.

You're right, Toe... I think many men have lost the ability to show admiration for another for fear it reflects on their masculinity... and that's a shame. Your father must have been a remarkable man... for he raised you to be a man without equal.

But whether idiots or wits or incredible talents or just fun guys to know... whatever the label, you and LJA and Balladeer are a delight. This gal is glad to know you all!

Christmas is the time for mushy
s'long as you don't touch the tushy
so you did a job repleat
with feelings, wow, it is so neat...

so to say we're proud of you
...is the very least we all can do!

While other poets write of shrouds
And torture, pain, and darkened clouds,
Abuse, love lost and skies of gray,
Old Toerag comes to save the day.

He writes with laughter in his words
(With rhymes that I have seldom heard)
And brings a smile to this old face.
He makes this world a better place.

Each insult that he piles on me
Is like a badge of courtesy.
I relish every shot he sends
'Cause it reminds me we are friends.

He's never said an angry word
Or criticism - that's absurd
To think that this man would attack
Someone unable to fight back.

So let the fife and bugle blow
As into battle we both go
To duke it out until the end
And, all the while, we'll be good friends.

At the risk of turning this into a Hallmark moment, Toe, let me wish you the best in whatever you do and know that you have true friends here who will always be glad to see you whenever you drop in. Merry Christmas, Scott.

Darling: When a man can show another man - affection, that to me, is the sign of a real man because they're comfortable in their skin and with their emotions...you go for it...I promise not think of any other names for you, other than RAT...LOL

Seriously, affection in a man is something I look for because it means he's proud of how he feels and so you should be!

Husg darling< !signature-->

PS: If anyone is wondering about the RAT comment, our Toe here, LOL, sent a serious sounding email out about twins needing a home in Kosovo and although there was an attachment, I couldn't view it...ROFL...so, I wanted to know more about these baby twins with a view to giving them a home, yep!! You guessed, the twins were of a grown-up variety, female attributes and four of them in all...ROFL...so he's a RAT but a loveable one..*g*

Yesterday is but today's memory and tomorrow is today's dream...

Toe,
You stood up to Ballader toe to toe
And for that I'm proud of you, you know.
Have a Merry. By the way that was a great poem.

Toe.
Having only known you for so short a time, this has still managed to make feel all sappy and stuff.

We're poets - we have an obligation to be hallmarkers.

Great words.

Careful now, you're beginning to make me believe your heart is even larger than it seems!  Very nice way of expressing your admirations, Senor rag.  Happy Holidays to you.

Here, Lucie!!! We can't have that! LOL.

Sally: However large his heart seems, it's even larger! *G*

Balladeer: I loved your response.... you describe the sparring (and the sentiments *G*) well!!!

Toerag: Ya think that sailor scalawag is already hitting the eggnog and too bleary eyed to read? LOL. If so, he's missing out on a great one!!! *G*

Ahhh here is a glimpse of that huge heart of yours. I knew it was there right form the moment I first met you Sir. These men of whom you speak are indeed great ones. You are blest to have them as friends.

Wonderful work Toe.
