Me, and “Red Ken” Bowen-
Signed with the Muleshoe L..
Up in the Southern Rockies-
With a landscape out of Hell.
I was a Texas cowboy-
“Red Ken” was purely green,
It was the greatest setup
Those boys had ever seen.
When it come to ropin’ ponies
That foreman said, “Hey, Herc”!
“Give Ole Tex here, that snip-nosed bay-
The pony needs some work”.
“And give ole Red, old Dunny-
He looks about his speed”.
The dun horse looked near thirty-
Sway-backed and scabby kneed.
It all went well till saddled-
I tightened up my girth,
And barely hit the saddle-
When ole Snip, he left the earth.
Them boys started laughin’
Even dumb “Red Ken”-
The foreman called, “No time for that”
There’s cows to be brought in”!
A point I won’t belabor,
Became a sad old song-
The others gathered cattle-
I rodeoed along-
That pony pitched the whole day through
If he could find a spot
Even somewhat level
Though that took quite a lot.
We drew our pay that evenin’
The foreman called us back..
Said, “See ya in the mornin’”?
Or some such stupid crack-
I looked that twister over-
Said, “Go right straight to H---”!
I’ve had a belly full of you-
Snip, and the Muleshoe L”.

Reading one of your poems is like opening a jar of bar-b-que sauce and taking a big whiff.
