Never again must the fruition of beauty,
waiting for the propitious moment of its birth,
withhold pleasure solely for the sake of duty;
instead must it strive to show its own inner worth.

By nefarious misdeed can vengeance carry
sinful thoughts of power taken to extreme end,
into scalding pits of hate which trap the wary
and loathe those whose faithless nature is to pretend.

You have captured the two extremes here -- the light and the dark faces of humanity.  Presenting them juxtaposed as such makes for an intriguing read ...

Um wow Scott....let me drag out Webster's and look up a few of these magnificent words, then I'll be able to give you a better reply, for I must admit, part of this went over my chemically blonde head !     From what I can gather, I find this superb and deeply written from the depths of your thoughts.....And wow, what thoughts you harbor!!

LOL - then your mind must harbor many such thoughts!

Excellent, well written words.

This is good! For the fact there are only 2 stanzas, the lines seem so clean and full of feeling! I guess I can't explain it... I only know I like it.

Interesting, Dreamevil; I'll have to ponder a while to figure out exactly what you mean...powerful stuff.

The poem is written entirely in alexandrine verse. Each line is written in hexameter (12 syllables=6feet). Further the stresses are reversed so the accented syllable comes first and is followed by the soft syllable.

Usually they are used as ending lines in poetry such as the Spensarian stanza which uses a rhyming triplet to end the stanza. The final line is an alexandrine.

It was moderately difficult to write an entire stanza in reverse.

Thank you much.
