Santa Claus was feeling blue,
Poor Rudolph had the reindeer flu,
My oh my, what can I do?
To Mrs. Claus, did Santa stew,
Santa summoned forth his elves,
From their shop with toy filled shelves,
I need suggestions, make them quick,
Because poor Rudolph still is sick,
Tomorrow night is Christmas Eve,
Without red nose, how can I leave?
I will get lost, won't find Tibet,
Will probably crash into some jet,
All the children, for whom you've toiled,
Will be in tears, their Christmas spoiled,
The elves they thought, and thought and thought,
Not one idea, all was for naught,
Elves work hard, but aren't real bright,
Their bulbs are dim, there's not much light,
Then from the back, said elf so wee,
That Santa Claus, could barely see,
I have a thought, I'd like to help,
The others laughed, you foolish whelp,
You are too small, such tiny elf,
Can't even reach, toys' bottom shelf,
Santa laughed, went HO HO HO!!!
Tell me what you think you know,
Wee elf replied, use fireflies,
Their blinks will light up Christmas skies.

On Christmas Eve, if you're awake,
And to the skies, a gander take,
I have a thought, that you'll be thinking,
I now know why the stars are blinking.

I love this Mike.

I have never seen a fire fly
but I'll look for them
in that Christmas sky.

In the dew of little things,
the heart finds its morning
and is refreshed.

Thank you all so very much and Merry Christmas to you and yours.  I have to admit, I enjoyed writing this poem.  With my eldest daughter's wedding coming up, I haven't had much time for the Christmas spirit yet... but Passions lit the Christmas fire in me...  lol

and yes.. Rudolph is all better... he got his reindeer flu shot this year...

This is so incredibly sweet. I too would like to print it out and give it to my grandchildren, with your permission of course.

What?  We have some folks here that have never seen fire flies!?  Oh gees, now I know why I don't like California!  LOL  Oh Martie, you should come to Arkansas on a warm summer's night, and have fun chasing them around the yard, catching them, and making your own "homemade lantern"....!!  It is so much fun!  Guess there's too much commotion in CA for them to stick around.....*sigh

Hey Mike!  I echo all the above about this poem of yours!  Fabulously sweet !  And indeed, sometimes it's the smallest who has the best answers.....if only we would listen better to them!

Would be honored WildChild.  Thanks Femme for the gracious comment.  If there is any question, I do not fall in the smallest category.... big goofus might be more descriptive.  Was in Eureka Springs this fall, you all have a beautiful state and do recall some fireflies.  *smile*

Mike this is so sweet and now you have me longing for summer. I do love the fireflies and Pennsylvania sure has more than it's fair share of them in the summer. I have seen fields literally aglow with them
Oh thank you for the nice reminder of how small things can bring a smile to my face

Aw, how sweet, Mike!

Nail to the mast her holy flag,
Set every threadbare sail-
And give her to the god of storms,
The lightning and the gale!
