I have been questioned about who I am by some. Understand please I do not look for sympathy.  I am only here to share ....so with that I share with you....my past

My Past
~First Knight~

She married a man of much greater age,
Ten years I was told, he made a small wage.
In a small house by the side of the road,
No time for things, and the lawn was not mowed.

The years came fast and the moving did too,
Never stayed to long, just a month or two.
In time came children two boys and a girl,
Father soon gone, he had left in a whirl.

Mother all alone with just three young kids,
with no car, no clothes, and jars without lids.
Despair had set in with no place to go
Wanting to get out,  What else did she know?

Just a small boy at the age of three,
Left all alone by his mother you see.
With his brother of five and sister of one,
She left like a shot, bullet from a gun.

That shot rang loud, as I lived out my days,
My brother and sister gone different ways.
Brother to old he remembers to much,
Sister to far, never knew her as such.

Now I stand alone as it was before,
Lost to this world, and I can't close this door.
Lost my Father, Mother, bro and sis too,
Lost a many a tear,  Yes have shed a few.

Twenty-eight years later and loss of a wife,
Wanting of someone who can share my life.
I won't hold on with a bone breaking grip,
When love does come my way, I often slip.

Just a gentle heart is all I will ask
To end this pain, my life, my strain, my past..

First Knight,
Family is truly our strength and that which sustains us. But somewhere out there, there is a lucky woman who will find you and she will be your family, your strength and your purpose. I hope she finds you soon!

Very moving poem. Who knows why these things happen to us; perhaps we are meant to share them to help others. Your poetry has a depth of feeling that shines brightly. Don't loose hope - you future will shine as bright also!

You are indeed a very strong and admirable person, Sir Knight

David,
Thank you for the glimpse into your past and for sharing your pain, sometimes that is not an easy thing to do. I also want to say thanks for the opportunity to get to know you as a friend. You are a kind and caring person and deserve that gentle heart you seek.

FKnight - wow.
To cram your life into so few words is admirable. Though it has been much much more. This is a wonderful testament to your heart that hasn't been hardened by loss, and to your wonderful writing.

Heartbreaking, made me shiver to think of your memories but a part of me says you're a better man because of them...weird thing to say, hope you know what I mean though..

First Knight, a sad past indeed, but never forget the happy stories you have that you didn't mention in your poem.
Indeed family, friends, and love are what sustain us in this ol' world.  I am sad for you.  But why don't you write a history of First Knight happy tales?  If you do let me know, I don't get over here to OP# 4 as often as I ought!!  ((HUGS))

What the inner voice says will NOT disappoint the hoping soul.

It takes great courage to be so open. And courageous you are, First Knight! You have friends here so I hope you feel that you have found your place! Great poem!

David, I am not sure, I put mine up for sale a while back and there were no takers. Here's the ad, perhaps you know a buyer
Heart For Sale

Look here at this bargain
It’s sure a super buy!
You won’t find a better deal
No matter how you try!

There have been few owners
She kept it in a shell
Well preserved and shielded
Though not protected well

Please ignore the footprints
It’s been walked upon
Don’t let that fact distract you
It’s a steal, so please come on!

Don’t mind the imperfections
What’s a scar or two!
Sure, it’s been used and abused
But it could work for you!

Hey, it still has life in it!
Though it’s battered and it’s torn
And if you wear it, oh, just right
You won’t notice that it’s worn

Come and see this heart for sale
Be you rich or poor
I’m sure to make a deal you’ll like
She don’t need it any more

That was very sweet my dear Lady Ruth.

The heart I hope to borrow is one of great delight.
Seen many sorrow, but now it begins its flight.
Held by a lady, of a perfect type you see
One day she will show it, While I on bended knee.

Till that day comes, I will rest.
From your words and gentleness.
