Among Angels
by ©Richard Budig, 1999

Down the aisle they came,
boys and girls in sheets
with coat hanger halos
bobbing above their heads,
eyes cast down at folded hands,
little feet shuffling in time with
“Angels We Have Heard On High,”
and nothing but a cherubic glow
shining out from little faces
headed for the school stage
where they became a timeless part
of a timeless story about you and me,
and the secret knowledge in us all
that every once in awhile
we find ourselves among angels.

Hey . . . help me with this:  Is it angels we have seen, or heard, on high?  Gadzooks, it just hit me . . . I can't remember.

Oh, Richard -
What beautiful memories this stirs.
So simple .. so pretty .. so nostalgic.

Those 'coat hanger halos' .. hanging over
the little cherubic faces ... adorable.

Thank you for sharing this.

Oh wow, I remember when I was in a play like this! The coat hangers and all!! Very nice Richard, thank you for that flashback! Anything with angels always gets my attention, they're all around us!

I was always one of the wise guys, er, men every year for the church pageant. This brings back nice memories. Thank you, sir.
