Fisherman of Bahia

He sails across the crystal bay
Well before the light of day
From twinkling crest to silver shore
The morning star of evermore
Illuminates his way

Inside his heart the ocean roar
Of devil's wave he knew before
And thoughts of death not his alone
But in the hearts of those at home
Who wait til break of day

As little waves slap his raft
He steadies now the fishing craft
But thoughts are on his daughter's face
And child's welcoming embrace
When he returns today

On open sea he'll fight the wave
Remembering the ones he gave
The brother, father lost at sea
But fishers they would always be
The bitter price to pay

No one can change the fisher's way
The ancient method yet today
He casts the net from off the raft
Attending sail and little craft
And prays til light of day

He summons up the ocean queen
The goddess to fulfill his dream
To fill the net with ocean's flower
The bounty fish by daybreak hour
And then to sail away

Embarks he now for fisher's task
His fate the morning to unmask
He navigates toward waters far
And the twinkling path of morning star
Illuminates his way

this is so good,
it reminds me of the old man in the sea
but the scheme is excellent,
captivating at the least
