The Bell Tower

He sits alone, the poet now
The one who wrote most wondrous song
He keeps his poetry in his heart
For something in his life went wrong
He sits and waits and tolls along
In the shadow of the bell tower's song

Wasn't it he who led us all
The students of the grand ascent
Didn't he voice his poetry then
And sing to the world with heart's content
What happened that he's in the spell
Of the tolling of the tower bell

He's counting time in days and hours
He's tolling his own life away
As though he knows his time of death
The very hour, the very day
Marking time by the bell above
Til he can be with his one true love

Would that the bell could sing his rhyme
And bless the world with beauteous words
'Tis a sadder place that we all live
That his poetry cannot be heard
He speaks to none, not even flower
In silence sits by the tolling tower

Well Liz.
Very well written - and I hope we hear his voice soon again.

This is a sad yet beautifully moving poem, Elizabeth. Very well done.

Elizabeth, my friend -
You've written another beauty.
The tolling bells ring out your beautiful words ... what pleasure it gives me to read your poems.
