I'm sitting here wondering why
It's been so so long since my last poem
Maybe it's cuz I can never find
A goddamn pen that works.
Or the right paper to write on.
Excuses, excuses.
I just don't want to have to feel my feelings
I guess.
Listen to me
I know not.

I have several untitled pieces - I don't think it matters as long as you know what it is about...

Honest emotion in this - I like it.

Now think about it?...I put a title on all my garbage? Yassee?, if I didn't, people would think all the crap I post was just the same garbage, (and it usually is)...I guess I could title them: Garbage #1....garbage #2...etc. etc.....I think a good title does bring one's attention to your work though? (sometimes ya can throw them off, put a title on your poem that has absolutely nuthin' to do with the poem...then, after they read it, it makes them think real hard...(thinking they missed something from the poem in regards to why you named it such)..People like Balladeer go bananas when ya do that..

ROFLMAO @ Balladeer going bananas!! *G* (And Toe, titling any of your work Garbage would certainly be misleading! *G*)

I had a professor once who was adamantly opposed to any untitled work... his theory was that if you think enough of it to have someone else read it, you should think enough of it to title the thing! *G* But I didn't agree with much he said. LOL. I have poems that I've posted elsewhere with no title... and only created a title here so I didn't have to see it sitting there titled "untitled." LOL. So no... I don't think it makes a poem better or worse... though some titles do catch my eye and make me read one poem over another.

Rachel_A -

A title doesn't make the content better,
but it does put a doorknob on the door.

A title certainly doesn't affect the quality of the poem... But many potential readers won't open a poem unless a title appeals to them - The lack of one will deter them...
