The Man on the Mountain

From very early on in life he was finely tuned
To the music of the planet and the rhythms of the moon
And what he saw pierced the very spirit and the heart
Of a youth who had much higher thoughts and visions from the start

A world of natural splendor to a visionary mind
Was just a mythical illusion of a world he couldn't find
Faltering at human ties with which he couldn't connect
He saw nature being tread upon in utter disrespect

He searched for truth in all those things of great intrinsic worth
Selecting the most wondrous creatures of the earth
He captured in a camara lens exquisite dreams he sought
And engraved into his being the magnificence it wrought

On top his Rocky mountain, away from cultures that perplex
He plods along the acreage in solemn introspect
And knowing every living thing of which he feels a part
He walks along the mountain side with music in his heart

This is a very dear friend, whose wildlife photos have graced the covers of Sierra Club calendars. He lives on top of a mountain in Colorado. It is quite beautiful

What a beautiful life your friend is able to live! I am sure he loved this poem, Elizabeth. I enjoyed it myself, and I thank you for posting! (See, you're not boring!)

Pictures can capture the sheer beauty of life in ways which nothing else can. This is a fine tribute to your friend, Elizabeth.

Very nice poem. I have seen most of the front range, only part of the western slope. He could live several life times and not run out of something to photograph. You pay him tribute well!

Elizabeth, my friend -
Such a pretty picture you paint
of the mountain man's film images.
A picture may paint a thousand words
but, your words paint a picture.
