Auctions

Memories on tables
and lives in baskets
spread before the crowd
and omnipresent auctioneer-
"One dollar, one dollar, OK now one-half
Do I hear two? two? Two! Sold!"
to hunters on the prowl
with bidding as the ammunition
and experience their guide
while widows and retirees
watch in hopeful expectation
and disbelief.

I always have felt that estate auctions are really an invasion of someone's personal space.... It just doesn't settle right with me....

Love the poem. Breaks me heart that my kids do not want my worthless treasures now. They could trash them after I am gone but what can I do with those treasures? I have no room for them??
