Why Do I Weep?

Why do I weep from deep within
As I have wept so many times
Is it a star of simple grace
That shreds the heart with love divine?

What is that slivered arrow flung
That strikes the heart with welcome pain
That drains the soul of precious tears
So willingly the wound sustains?

What is this glow of candle's flame
That makes me fall upon my knee
To then invoke a hundred tears
And sing the pain so openly?

Who is this Child of gentle love
Unto the universe bestowed?
Is it the beauty of the gift
That well of faith would overflow?

Why do I weep at Child's birth
Of one who stepped upon the earth
With gentle foot and loving hand
And splendid words of golden worth?

Why do I cry for one who died
Upon a hill to rescue me?
For sits He not upon the throne
Of life's desire and ecstasy?

Why do I sob in candle light
Each Christmas Eve before I sleep
If I am crying not for Thee
Must be I, for whom I weep

Elizabeth,
Do not cry to much my dove,
There is a time for every love.
I cannot turn your mind in steer
I can only lend you a tear.
Exquisite once again.

Beautiful, Liz. Silly me, I have had moments when I didn't know why the tears were in my eyes.

Elizabeth, my friend -
This is so YOU.
Exquisitely penned to perfection.
The tears are explainable ...
joy flows in rivulets of release for
a love as wonderful as His.

Elizabeth:..if you can't cry for yourself, then you don't know how to cry or feel, for others..so, as much as tears wept rarely free the pain, you do at least know how it feels...ooops, that sounds so morbid of me but isn't meant that way, not is it meant to make light of your poem...just my explanation of how I see things..

I wanted to alter what I said here, because having read it again, it doesn't really say what I mean, or at least it doesn't to me...I meant, you have to cry for yourself and know your own pain before you can feel for others...hope that sounds better...sometimes I wish I could put my eyes on here because they say what I can't put into words.

Take care

HUGS

What I meant by this poem is that I cry not for my pain, but for having failed to reach a higher spiritual plane, and I realize that more than ever at certain times of the year. I think when I see people sobbing in a church pew, it may also be for that reason
many times. I have rarely ever wept for my pain or sorrow, I think because I was always too busy with life.
Thank you all for the compliments on the poetry
Liz

Beautiful tears, Elizabeth. I have shed them too.
