When I am gone
and not around
I want no mound
to mark the ground
where I lay still
but let me be
alive and well
in memories

of those I touched
and knew me well
my wish is such
a place to dwell
and let them feel
me in the breeze
that keys the move-
ment of the trees

and let me rest
in Waldon's Pond
then to the stars
and far beyond
I'll be a part
of nature's plan
inside the heart
of every man

and let them see
me in the eyes
of lovers' glee
and baby's cries
for I will be
in all these things
in rains that fall
in birds that sing

and this will be
my epitaph
'he laughed to live
and lived to laugh
and laughed at life
he never dropped
until the day
the laughter stopped'

then I will rest
a restful sleep
I did my best
now trust my keep
to He above
who shows the way
to endless love
for this I pray.

Makes for both a good poem and a good prayer, Balladeer.

Oh, I like this...a departure from what you usually write...I love the format and the way it flowed from line to line, stanza to stanza!

This is beautiful. The bard, the balladeer, lives on in hearts, his words told and told again, an echo of the past into the future.

Sweet Balladeer -
Your laughter will be heard on the winds of sweet memories.
This is really very sentimentally beautiful.

dear 'deer - we're all going to Poet Heaven you know...
I have to agree with PdV and Ruth - it's one of those poems that has written itself. Bravo - many roses etc. K

And when I stand,
At your graveside,
I'll think of you,
then fertilize,
The flowers above,
From where you lay,
Cuz Toerag will follow ya,
to the grave!

Okay, seriously, this was a very well done poem Balladeer...and you'll be remembered when you're gone I'm sure....(Like now? I'm always thinking of something I can say about ya?)

M&M - I have only these words for you - from my Great-Grammie McGraw - Alice K Martin (1878-1967)

When I have left this mortal shore
And mosey 'round the earth no more,
Don't cry, don't weep, don't sob ~
I may have struck a better job.

Don't go and buy a large bouquet
For which you find it hard to pay.
If you have roses, well, bless your soul
Just pin one in my button-hole
While I am here and well today.
Don't wait until I've gone away.

I've no doubt that you will be treasured and felt inside the hearts of the many you have touched with you kindness and sincerity. Your words will last long after we've become one with nature.
Though, I hope you're not planing on leaving me for quite some time.
Sad, touching poem, my dear...

Not that my opinion means much...but, you're right Lovey and the rest of you....I can't imagine this place with out this man. He's kind of an icon here...I love to tease and bother him.....(and Longjohn), but he's gone off into never never y2k land, but there's few people on this earth that can reach into the depths of someone's heart..into their very soul like this guy can.....But, I kinda think he'll be around for quite sometime however....long after I'm dead and gone anyhow.....(which, with my temperment and mouth could be as soon as tomorrow), but, he'll be killin' roaches and makin' rhymes for a long long time me thinks...I will miss him, and all the rest of the crazies here....I just hope one of his employees doesn't mistake him for a palmetto bug and sprays the hell outta him....(I have heard he's been spotted in a few roach hotels however)...Or was that Roach infested hotels?....(Where he probably has the contract).....Yall be good to him now ya hear? He's really a pretty good old (very old) punkster.. yanno....despite what nature's done to him.......
