Sharing Samantha
~Marge Tindal~ 1999

The little card that I took from the tree,
did not require too much from me.
Her name, her age,
the size that she wore.
Buy a gift and wrap it,
take it back to the store.

I conjured up visions in the head of mine,
just who is Samantha, this child of nine?
Who is this child,
and where does she sleep?
Does she lie warm at night,
with no need to weep?

Does she have enough to eat,
so that she might grow?
I pray that she does ...
Oh, God, I hope so.

Oh Christmas Eve when I go to bed,
I'll have visions of Samantha dancing in my head.
On Christmas morning, I truly think,
a girl named Samantha, will look pretty in pink.

I chose just one name from off that tree,
But I'll go back, 'cause I know me.
It made me feel good to buy for that kid !
A gift for Samantha, I'm so glad I did !

As you pause and look around you,
and your blessings quite astound you ...
Do yourself a favor,
you really know you should !
Pick a name from the tree ...
YOU'LL FEEL SO GOOD !

*A special thanks to all of the places that have the trees with names of needy children on them...thanks for giving me a chance to share.

RainbowGirl - Those 'whole damn trees' can be found in the malls, the KMarts, the WalMarts and most major department stores.
I can promise you ... it is so thrilling to
imagine the eyes of a child lighting up on
Christmas morn when the gifts are received.
I'm a softie ... I always buy more than just the clothes or shoes that are suggested.
Suffice it to say, there are MANY Samantha's out there with happy smiles come Christmas morn.

Eloise - Yeah ! Warm and fuzzy is a GOOD description. Thanks for sharing from your heart with a child.

Oh! This is precious! This is so much fun! I did this once at K mart. Also have an overseas child that I've had for 15 years. And visited him once. No greater joy!
Glad you think so too

Alwye - Thank you for loving this idea.
When you go out to do your Christmas shopping, look for the trees with the little tags and names on them ... here in the states, they are all around. Pick a name and let your heart give ... you will LOVE THE FEELING, I PROMISE.

Great idea! I haven't seen that around here, though. Great poem too, Marge.

I have a grandchild, Samantha, that I enjoy buying for...and all the other wonderful things a little girl can do with her grandmother.  Loved seeing this again!  You are such a special sis!
