Home Again

Always on the outside
Ever looking in
I traveled back to you
but can't go home again

So I said goodbye
And drove on in the rain
Though the sun was shining
The teardrops were my name

In my rearview mirror
I see your image still
And with it this great heartache
I thought that time would kill

But time has only increased
the sorrow that I feel
for in the year that's passed
the wound has never healed

My left hand still feels empty
without your golden band
It grips the steering wheel
A silent reprimand

Decisions not thought through
Made in angered haste
We signed a piece of paper
That laid our life to waste

We relinquished sacred vows
too stubborn to compromise
Yet we never lost the love
It's still aching in our eyes

Now neither will admit
that we've made a mistake
In our separate houses
we lie in bed awake

And here I am,outside
Ever looking in
I traveled back to you
but can't go home again

Ah, this is so sad, Caroline. Sad and touchingly beautiful. Well done.

Very sad Caroline. Too many people are outside looking in.

Very true that you cannot go back and rebuild the past, but accepting it seem just as hard.

Glad I am to have you back my friend.

Caroline - A hug sent your way. Your poem is lovely, even though the topic is sad.
Love shouldn't hurt like this. And I may disagree with some others when I say ... reclaiming the past is not as difficult as continuing on with a wrong decision.

Caroline,
They say confessions cleanse the heart.
But now you know that's the easy part.
Beautiful poem.
