His eyes tell the story of where he has been.
To Joe's Friendly Tavern he went back again.
To the bartender he moans, and tells all of his woes.
About the heartaches that follow wherever he goes.

He speaks of sad memories from his youth.
And the day he found out the awful truth.
About how he came into this lonely world.
And it sent his life spinning around in a whirl.

The lies and deception he felt as a child,
Turned him to drinking and made him run wild.
He talked of the jobs that he could not hold.
And the homeless times he spent in the cold.

He went on for awhile and got it off his chest.
Then back to his own world, he fell silent at rest.
With drink in hand, he seemed deep in thought.
Grateful for the peace his venting brought.

As the bartender sets up for the next troubled soul.
Again he will listen and try to console.
They come from all walks of life, and their hearts they expose.
Because the bartender won't tell what the bartender knows.

This reminds me of that tv show 'Cheers'! Very nice poem! Describes many people, I'm sure!

And at times we all need someone to talk to. If for no other reason than to find out what we think about what we are saying.
Nicely done
