Tell I Loved Her
by ©Richard J. Budig

Indigo wings sweep the evening,
Swirling diamond clusters above me
While I search the deep
For she who soars alone
Upon midnight's sapphire cape.
And then, as wingbeats fade away,
Night's voice murmurs in my ear:
Say to me what she must hear
For every night I find her here
Captured in my starry seine.
I shall say to her what you say to me
And speak aloud your name.
No, say not my name,
For she shall know it
When you say, quoth he,
Tell I loved her all this night,
And will the nights here left.
