Calling All Hearts
by ©Richard J. Budig 1997

Flip Spiceland points at his weather map
And I see the same cloud that rains on me
Is raining on you and I wonder,
I wonder if your heart is as soggy as mine,
If the fires that once burned within
Have been smothered by damp ennui
And for a moment, I feel like Flip,
Pointing at our secret weather map,
Noting that the fire in your heartland is out
And that another system of damp and drizzle
Approaches from the Great Northwest
Raising serious warnings from the weatherman:
"Calling all hearts . . . take cover, take cover!"
