Pure venom from vain lips they only give
Revealing depths of emptiness within
Contention is the god for whom some live
Sight blinded still by blight of Adam's sin.

Impressive to themselves their knowledge fine
An argument is pressed at ev'ry turn
The fruit produced ferments to bitter wine
A vile brew the meek in spirit spurn.

Confusion veils complete with heavy gloom
Its pall of death enshrouds the atmosphere
As dark as any grave in granite tomb
Is there a light at all can shine in here?

Eternal God, Your Light hath brightly shown
'Tis You alone can roll away the stone.

Sometimes I do not respond to poems because I can not express my feelings adequately...
such a time....

Mike is absolutely right - This is absolutely fantastic!! You must have more sonnets in your sonnet pocket than anyone I know - and this one is among your best...

Thank you, Dark Angel, Mike, Elizabeth, Nan, Ohme, Marge, Isis and Balladeer for your warm comments! They mean so much to me, each and every one!

Elizabeth-Thank you for the sweet little poem!

Nan-I have you to thank for the sonnets! I snuck in on your classes! I think they have become my favorite form!

Isis-You are so sweet! I have lots of ones I don't like until I work them over a bit! And if I can't get them to my liking I don't share them with anybody! Thanks for asking and for your kind comments.

Thank you, Rebecca! Your comments warm my heart! Yes, I do know about the Spiritual forum. I have several posted there! Some things, though, I like to share in the Open forum! (sort of like being the salt of the earth, if you will!)

Oh, Denise, this is amazing. Many times have I tried to write a sonnet and failed. You have written this beautifully. Thank you.

Thanks Ruth and Roses Thorns! So glad you liked it!!

Ruth- is that the same one that you gave me already or a different one? I still have the one you sent me last week! After the wedding I'll get right on it!

Thanks again!
