Our Grandpa

Our grandpa chose to work and till the land
with artist's skill and gentle hand
and through the years there was demand
to walk behind the plow.
The sum total of our grandpa's worth
cannot be measured just with earth
but in the ones he taught since birth
to walk behind the plow.
Our grandpa never was too tired to play
no matter that he'd worked that day
he always seemed to find a way
to walk behind the plow.
The lessons that we learned from our grandpa dear
have been with me from year to year
and as before the need is clear
To walk behind the plow.
So in our grandpa's life please search and see
and realize with us as we
have come to know that it will be
a lonely walk behind the plow.

Robert

Lovely poem, Robert. And grandparents are pretty good at teaching life's lessons.

Poems about people we loved and lost are so sad, but at the same time, so full of joy and a testimony, like this one, to the gifts they left behind.
