Sitting by the seashore
Starring out to sea-
Watch the palm trees bending
Yielding to the breeze.
Moonlight on the water
Reflecting from the beach,
The stars so bright, they almost seem
To be within my reach.
Another lonely soldier-
A long, long way from home
Regretting I’d enlisted,
And wanted so to roam.
Thinking about Mama-
And a steaming coffee pot-
I see one’s never thankful
For the good thingas that he’s got.
I’d heard about the islands-
And the balmy tropic clime,
And all those pretty hula girls
And all the fun-filled times.
I’d trade it for a ticket-
One way to San Antone-
Where I’d stick my thumb up in the air
And make my way back home.
A friend on old Oahu
Is mighty hard to find-
For a lonely teen-aged soldier,
Who has Texas on his mind.

There you go ... you've done it again !
Captured me and lassoed me in.
I am spell-bound with the reading of your tales.

Marge, I have to borrow "spell bound" because that's the word that describes it best for me too!
Gunslinger......I really liked this piece much....excellent!

Like this much Gunslinger being a Texan myself...San Antonio...Riverwalk...sitting by the sea...(gulf)...my favorite places in Texas...homeward bound for that homesick soldier.
