I'VE GIVEN ALL I HAD TO GIVE

I've given all I had to give
I've lived the best that I could live
I've loved the most that I could love
I've reaped the coo of mourning dove

I've been at degredation's door
I've fed the hungry and the poor
I've played a mother's loving role
I've known the hunger of the soul

I've seen the sun rise o'er the bay
I've danced a dance in month of May
I've soared above the star lit skies
When first beholding newborn's eyes

I've shivered lonely in the night
Afraid to be afraid of light
I've pondered those decisions made
For which I dearly, dearly paid

I've felt the hollow hunger pain
I've walked the streets in windswept rain
I've known the feel of passion's bliss
I've felt the warmth of loving kiss

I've manned the helm and held the keel
Of Flying Dutchman's golden heel
I've lain alone on marbled floor
While lifeblood from my wounds did pour

I've been elated at the sight
Of creature's foot on winter's white
Of crimson, bronze and umbered leaves
Of crystal snowflakes on my sleeve

And looking back in retrospect
I have not any one regret
I have not fame or noted wealth
But I've been always true to self

But now I'm weak, the end has come
I'm happy with the songs I've sung
I've given all I had to give
I've lived the best that I could live

I catch a glimpse of azure sky
And birds of feather flying by
A rumpled swishing sound they make
I beg to know the course they take

Please step aside and let me through
I've so much living yet to do
So many wonders to be seen
So many dreams I've yet to dream

What words could I possibly use to describe perfection? All this and to think we haven't stopped learning yet!

creature's foot on winter's white...how I love that line! But this poem is filled with such excellence I could pick out any line and love it. Beautiful workmanship.

Elizabeth ... this is positively the loveliest thing I've read in a very long time.
You are filled with wonder and delight.
Such a spirit lives in you.
BEAUTIFUL !

In the framing of a soul,
Comes the winter of its goal.
In the writing of this poem,
Lies the wealth of epitome.
Exquisite.

Sy
Words escape this poet's tongue
To answer lovely hymns you've sung
So fine unworthy praise's hue
From a poet's poet such as you
Thank you,
Elizabeth

Elizabeth,
God grant what said is true,
But I feel the poets poet is you.
Pepper,
I echo your love.

Martie, I've been trying to leave this forum, and I must, but you all make it very difficult with your poetic inspiration.
Thank you.
