She stood holding the back of the chair
as his coffin was lowered into the hole
she closed her eyes to the finality
of losing a part of her soul.

She felt his warm presence behind her
and opened her eyes hoping to see
his death was a hoax that someone
created out of cruelty.

Silently shedding tears of sorrow
praying that she would be brave
wondering how to go on without him
as she stood here at his grave.

The sun broke through the clouds
and she felt his warmth inside
felt his heart join hers as it beat
and heard his laughter in her mind.

She turned and gathered her children
to her waiting motherly breast
smiling, she told them their father
was peacefully at rest.

She walked away from the sadness
seeking the future to find
always feeling him in her
his laughter in her mind.

PDV: You made me shiver, I dread that time of loss, I truly do..

Certainly an unforgettable time in life, isn't it?? You portray the devastation of this experience beautifully - as you always do...

Beautiful, Poet deVine. I don't believe I read this in OP #1, but I'm glad I found it in this one.

Love I buried in the ground
with our friends all gathered 'round.
silently he always sleeps.
love lies there and oft' it weeps.
