Poetry’s God

TELL me who… who is
the Divine one of Rhyme
that I should do obeisance
and make Him my God
TAKE me to the mountain
to obtain the tablets
upon which is the Law
that will prove my sinful state
SHOW me the altar
so I may offer sacrifice
for repentance of wrongs
unknowingly committed
‘gainst His potent Words
LEAD me to the temple High Priest
and he will most surely
burn incense and pray on my behalf.

Yet, if you people cannot
produce such a one,
then let me be an evolutionary poet
a disciple of myself
responsible to none.
