Life
by Miss Abagail Mannering

Life is like a maiden voyage,
unpredicatble and unique.
Sometimes the sailing's smooth,
and sometimes the waters' rough.

Sometimes the fare is a feast,
quite palatable to your gullet;
and sometimes the pickings are slim
and the water brackish.

Sometimes your quarters are confortable,
roomy and relazing.
And sometimes they confine you 'til
you crave to be a gull and fly free.

Orders given, and orders received
are oft times not the same.
What we perceive to mean one thing
most often means quite another.

The direction and course we travel
is left to science and fate.
and we say....
what is meant to be will be.

(written after my attempt at suicide. It was inspired by Titanic, though i had not seen it at that time.)April. 1998

Miss Abagail, I liked this one. When I was reading it I was thinking about a lonely little ship at sea with its passangers all longing to live the way they pleased, not by the orders given. If I was confined, I'd also long to be a gull and fly free. Life is a series of ups and downs like on a sea with waves that can smack you around any way they please.

My favorite lines are in the first stanza.

"Sometimes the sailing's smooth,
and sometimes the waters' rough."

(Yes, Life. It is like a maiden voyage. Who knows what's ahead or when the next big storm will hit?)

Thank you, I am glad that my Ship seems to FINALLY be close enough to shore, that if i have to 'jump ship', i won't 'drown.'
