A Winter Night Remembered

I watched as winter came upon us,
and the last rose petal fell.
The harsh memories still haunt me
of that night, a never ending hell.

I tried to escape the madness,
in the winter winds, so cold.
But I found myself near freezing,
with memories I'll always hold.

Screams echoed through the icy trees
of how I vowed to never let go.
You swore to me that your love was true
and you would let everyone know.

I must have stood in the rain for hours,
until it started to slowly freeze.
My body was now entirely numb,
shivering with every cooling breeze.

You found my body that night,
passed out and half way froze.
How I survived that night is a
miracle that nobody knows.

But I believe I know the reason
of just why I didn't die.
Simply because I never had
the chance to tell you good-bye.

Wow - one powerful poem here! That first verse is great - the way you have mixed something as fragile as a rose petal with a night of living hell. Excellent words Lynn.

Thanks Severn....It took a lot of time to write this, because of the situation. I' glad I did though. Thanks again.

This is well written, Lynn. The images and combinations of ideas and intertwining of thoughts took work, I'm sure....and it was well worth it.

Thanks Balladeer. It was actually from a semi-true event in my life. A time that I still think about very often, but wish I could forget. Sometimes it takes me a while to come up with something to write, but I have had many sleepless nights this past week, and this was the thought I had. I'm glad you liked it.
