Those golden days of yore dance through my mind
Like autumn leaves that swirl in gentle breeze
I drift along back to those days so kind
My soul yearns once again fair days as these.

A symphony performs soft in my heart
Its rhapsody enthralls me unto tears
Fine melodies will always play their part
And trill to me those lovely bygone years.

Thanksgiving Day has rolled around again
We'll gather close, give thanks for all He gave
Yet think I will of days so happy when
I didn't have to stand beside your grave.

Then as I kneel to place some flowers there
Again I'll thank Him for your love so rare.

In Loving Memory Of My Mother and Father

Thoughts I've had, but never think to write, nor could I ever write.

Severn, Robert, Hoot and Elizabeth, thank you for reading and commenting. I wanted to write something for them, to make them a part of the season for me. I'm sorry if it came across as sad or depressing. I didn't mean for it to be that way.

Thanks again for your lovely comments.

Denise, beautiful.
Like you, I set a place at the memory table for my parents,
mindful that the traditions
I celebrate originated with them.

Ok...I cried when I read this. Absolutely beautiful! We should all take this year to remember those we used to share our table with and as we pass into the new millennium, make a vow to have at least one NEW face at our table next year. Invite a friend, a coworker, a neighbor or a stranger from your church that otherwise would be alone. Expand your family! Thank you, Denise, for a wonderful poem!

Denise, you never fail to bring tears to my eyes. When I read this, I couldn't help but to think about having to spend this Thanksgiving without my Grandfather. Beautiful poem, written by a beautiful soul.

Thank you, Lynn, you are so sweet! I know it's hard, but time, they say, heals all wounds. (it's just the waiting for the healing that hurts.)
