Snow Cones

"Coconut snow cones!
Write about snow cones,
preferably coconut,
my personal favorite."
I smiled as he said the words.
"What can I write about
something as vague as snow cones."

I filed the thought
for another day,
another inspiration lost
somewhere in the reserves of my mind,
preserved away until today.
And as I read his words,
that he was going away,
I suddenly got a craving
for coconut snow cones.

Never again,
will I be able to pass
the snow cone wagons
at the local fair
without thinking
of him. I'll watch
children, eyes alight
with anticipation,
taking that first lick;
and as crystallized ice
succumbs to summer heat
leaving tiny hands coated in
sticky sweetness, part of
my heart will also melt.

(About 3 or 4 months ago, when I was going through some difficult times, a good friend here online told me to drop writing about other things and write about something simple like "snow cones" for a while. I never did, today he told me he was leaving the internet, his son is going to college and taking the computer along. This is for him.)

Oh Ruth - he'll treasure it I'm sure.
What a reason for inspiration - it was perfect timing, just waiting for 'now'.
Wonderful poem.

I love this! Some times the big things are just too enormous to be explained in a word. ("In the dew of little things

Hoot, I think sometimes the poems say so much. I Think this one does!

Ruth my friend. Your friend is very dear to you and I have seen why. Keep in touch other ways and never forget him (as I know you won't!) he will never forget you my friend.

Coconut???...How about raspberry or peach??..lol
