Every rule has its exception,
And so I feel perfectly free
To loosely interpret all rules
When applying them to me.

Whenever a rule seems too rigid,
Too stonily absolute,
I find it is essential
To strike directly at its root.

For instance, "Honor the Sabbath,"
Of Moses ten, the third.
But why should I honor Moses,
And why should I follow his word?

And then there are rules against anger,
Gluttony, lust and greed--
Nothing more than strictures
From someone's outmoded creed.

I find life to be more pleasant
When I keep my guilt level low,
So I ignore rules made by others
And invent my own as I go.

Sometimes rules are nessacary. Although, I can understand that some can be rigid and un-fair. Good poem, though.
