Going The Wrong Direction On A One Way Street

I was the only one driving down the street
where all the stores and shops had already closed.
There were no stop signs at the corner
and no traffic lights were turned on
to direct my travel.

The sun cast long shadows across the pavement
like lines on rulers measuring my progress.
There were no street signs on lamp posts,
no traffic signs telling me which
direction to go.

Then I saw another car that looked like mine
approaching from the opposite direction.
As it passed I saw myself siting
undaunted in the driver's seat.
But where was I going?

Obviously, I was going the wrong way!
Going the wrong direction on one way streets
is a perilous journey at best.
My life would have to turn around
and go a different way.

When you figure out how to turn around would you please send me directions? Good poem, Ohme, I feel the exact same way right now.

Michael,
Hoot,
I'll sure do that, but don't hold your breath. I'm still working on it myself!

WhtDove, Thanks for reading and replying.

Denise, Thanks, glad you enjoyed.

I've driven on that same street and in trying to get off ended up on dead end alley. Great poem--loved the symbolism.

Ohme: Who's to say it's the wrong direction? Maybe... Maybe not. I hope you don't mind but your piece reminded me of of this piece I wrote some months back:

Trail Blazer

Sign said "Curves Ahead"
But you went straight
The light flashed red
But you wouldn't wait

The map pointed this way
But it's in the back seat
You blazed your own trail
And took a side street

"This Road Closed"
Dropping a gear
You moved on through
Without any fear

"Detour," turn right
But not for you
You made your own path
Something anew

When you get where you're going
Just let me know
I'll be right behind you
In a year or so

And if I get there
You can fill me in
On people you've seen
Places you've been

Of mysteries found
And journeys unreal
Escapades abound
A life of zeal

I'll await your word
And till that time
Keep following your heart
And I'll follow the signs

lloveit, I think your right! Glad you like it.
Pepper, thanks for the pat on the back.
Martie, thanks, and glad you saw the symbolism!
Andrew, I certainly did not mind! Had to be a similar feeling. Thanks.

O,

Lived in this one for a while today. Laughing
hysterically, watching myself going the other way.

It has everything to do with where you are in your life.

Terrific Piece
