Dancing despair drapes the windows
Scuttling shadows slither across the sky
Sending soft perpetual drizzle
Floating the oil slicks on the roads
As 4x4's speed by trusting in traction
Grow-lights glow in each house's windowed lights
Singing UV warning, tiddle-dee, fry with me
Emptied chamber smoking cordite
With the surcease deceased
When comes rejuvenating from above
Caressed by a beam of the sun's love

I've heard about those northwestern gray days of drizzle. Sounds very depressing. I'm soooooooooo glad I don't live there! I need as much of that golden sunlight as I can get. I tend to get down and depressed from days on end without it!
Great poem, Alicat!

This was so discriptive and well done. I was in Portland this summer in the sun--give me sun any time.

GO WEST YOUNG MAN!!!!
Ali my dear you need to mosey out my direction where the leaves are such a brilliant hue and the birds are flying madly to reach their winter haunts. Where the sun shines in intermittant bursts....
heck read my prose I wrote from MY THIS Saturday's events and see how I percieve Oregon in November *wink*

Today, autumn stole in and broke winter's fierce grip upon the earth. As her balmy breezes and slanting sun gently touched my soul. I stopped my tasks and watched the geese flying overhead, calling out their hello's, as I waved. My heart thrilled to know where these travelers had been, and where they had to go even yet. And I longed to be one of them, crying my heart out to the moon. Telling it to stay 'neath the horizon for just a few minutes more, 'til I and my flock reached our night's repose. I longed to take wing and fly! To waft upon the wind, letting nature and God dictate my next stop. I watched until they faded into the mist that hung low over the coastal range. The mist that reminded me that though the gentle breezes and sun smiled down now, in but a moment or two, winter could rear her fierce head and overtake this beautiful day, leaving it but just a faint memory. Until the hands of fate and fortune send another respite from winter to grace my life once more.

(But I smiled even still remembering a barefoot day on the Oregon Coast in the middle of January! Knowing that days like this were rare and special, but I'd see them again. Even if I could never take flight with the geese and fly far and away. I know inside my heart there lives eternal springtime.)

It's all in how ya see it Ali! BTW email me so we can meet for coffee! Neighbor!

And to think you started writing this in the car waiting for me to get my mail...hehehe...pretty day it was on Saturday though, you must admit, sug. Spending the day cramped in a car for hours probably wasn't the best utilization of time, but wasn't it fun listening to my daughter sing the abc's to every stranger passing by our booth at the restaurant?

XAngel, what a beautiful description!! Methinks we should expose this cat to such splendor, that can only be found in such a lovely state. watcha think?
