Hostages
by © Richard J. Budig 1999

Drunks.
Get rid of ‘em
They say
Then everything’s fine
But we
Their hostages
Know it ain’t so
They live on
In their handiwork
Broken furniture
Broken Dreams
Bashed doors
Bashed hopes
Split lips
Split emotions

Well said, Broker.

Hostage to a bottle,
the drunks we'd like to throttle !
Living hell the drunkard rends ...
there's more than furniture
here to mend.

Marge:

Sounds like you've had some experience, too.

Oh, my friend ... haven't we all. Whether it lives in your house or the house of a friend ... the ravages of addiction to the bottle touch us all.
