To Have Never Loved

‘Tis better to have loved and lost they say
Than never to have known true love at all
But I, who’ve watched love quickly slip away
Would rather not have taken that cruel fall
O'er many loves, those tears of loss I've cried
But those be mild, and darling, oh so few
Compared to when, my love, you up and died
And took my broken heart along with you
So now, I live here lost inside my pain
Your memories are only in my mind
I’ll never feel true love like ours again
My heart is gone, this shell is left behind

And to the grave my voice will surely call
‘Tis better to have never loved at all

Ruth, this is very beautiful, but very heartbreaking....

Beautifully written Ruth, but I'll have to disagree... I belive in "Tis better to have loved and lost then never to have loved at all."

Hoot, this is a beautiful sonnet, and the sentiment lovely. But I'm gonna vote the other way. That which was most precious while we had it can still be most precious though gone.

How about
'Tis better to have loved a prince they say
Then to have lived alone with seven dwarfs
Who whistle on thier way to work each day

Hey Bashful...what rhymes with dwarfs??

Ruth, you nailed my heart to the wall with this one. I agree one hundred percent...most of the time, depends on my mood. Right now though, I agree.

Thank you everyone for your kind comments.

I don't really believe this reflects my line of thinking, but actually can't say for sure.
