Death by Deception
~~~***~~~
From out of shadow's depth
Into her life he came
bearing falsehoods on his breath
Deception was his name
~~~*~~~
The lies that he created
fell sweetly on her ears
His every word was weighted
to dissipate her fears
~~~*~~~
He spoke of endless adoration
and promised her the moon
Showed her such rare dedication
to her passion he was attuned
~~~*~~~
At first he felt her hesitation
but patience was his skill
Silken lies his main vocation
A sugar-coated poison pill
~~~*~~~
He coaxed her down into the dark
far along betrayal's road
On a liar's journey she embarked
at the invitation he bestowed
~~~*~~~
She wasn't sure where his path led
So he offered her directions
She ignored the voices in her head
And followed her affections
~~~*~~~
No one had ever made her feel
the feelings that he brought
Open for him, her spirit to steal
then devastation he wrought
~~~*~~~
Long she wandered in belief
He'd soon be by her side
But hope was turned to bitter grief
when she realized he had lied
~~~*~~~
There was no way she'd ever find
a way to get back home
Deception smiled at his design
and knew his job was done
~~~*~~~
He left her there in shadow deep
still wearing his welded chains
Each night he visited her in sleep
To remind her of the pain
~~~*~~~
Satisfied that he'd inflicted
all the anguish he could impart
He watched her die, addicted
to the destroyer of her heart
~~~*~~~

Caroline, such deaths never make it to the obituaries but they are just as real.

Excellent....we've been missing you around here, thought you went into hiding somewhere. Welcome back

Wish I could think of something poignant for such a top-notch poem words such as excellent and great are pretty pale same as ‘what flow’ and ‘tremendous style’ followed by words such as encore, encore, so I’ll just say TTTYG.

Wow, my goodness - you keep getting better - truly! I think you have a real skill with creating moods, and setting the pace to fit them.
